PDP member arraigned for calling Kashamu "drug Baron" on Whatsapp

A member of the People’s Democratic Party, Deji Babington-Ashaye has been arraigned before a chief Magistrate court in Isabo, Abeokuta for calling Buruji Kashamu, Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial district, a drugs Baron and jail breaker.

According to The Nation, the man rained abusive words on Kashamu on “PDP WhatsApp group” known as PDP match to victory.
He was arraigned on Tuesday, March 22, for engaging in the act that threatens the peace of the state.
Babington-Ashaye was said to have committed the offence between March 13 and 14 ,2016 at about 2:30pm at Opposite community High School , Ogere, Remo in Ogun State magistrate district.
The Prosecuting counsel, Sunday Eigbejiale, said the accused called Kashamu a drug Baron and jail breaker, and challenged him to go to the United States of America  and clear the doubt.
Eigbejiale said he thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section 249 (d) of the criminal code cap 29 Vol.11 laws of Ogun state of Nigeria 2006.
But the PDP member pleaded not guilty to the one count charge of breaching public peace.
In defence, counsel to the accused, Bola Oluwole, said the offence his client allegedly committed is bailable, asking the court grant him bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Oriyomi Ogunfowora, who agreed with the defence counsel, granted the accused bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in the like sum.
Ogunfowora adjourned the matter till March 30,2016.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) had since 2015 sought Kashamu's extradition to the United State for drug charges levelled against him in Chicago in 1998.
The senator had since died the charges against him, citing a case of mistaken identitiy.
