'APC leaders quiet in the face of evil,' party Chieftain says

He said Saraki, who has laboured and risked his life for the APC, does not deserve the current ordeal he is facing.
Senate President, Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on March 24, 2016.

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Timi Frank, has expressed concerns over the continued trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

He said Saraki, who has laboured and risked his life for the APC, does not deserve the current ordeal he is facing.
According to statement released by Frank on Friday, March 25, he accused the APC leadership of turning its back on the Senate leader. He said the party leaders remain "quiet in the face of evil."
He said: "I sincerely hold that the current trial of Saraki is not only underserved, but amounts to paying a good man with evil.
"I also want to say that the leaders of our great party have unfortunately remained quiet in the face of evil.
"I don't believe we have forgotten that the victory of the APC during the last general elections could not have been possible without courageous strategists like Saraki who lent their political weight in favour of the APC at the risk of their own lives and personal survival.
"I don't think we have forgotten how Saraki as a Senator in the 7th Senate brought the attention of Nigerians to the fraud perpetrated by the last administration in the name of fuel subsidy.
"I recall how Saraki led five other governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the APC - a development that successfully turned the political tide against the PDP and eventually tipped the electoral scale against them during the 2015 general elections.
"I don't think we have forgotten how Saraki led scores of Senators to cross over to the APC on the floor of the Senate,'' it said.
He alleged that the judiciary is giving in to blackmail from a section of the media by refusing to do their job as required by law.
"Saraki has paid his dues at a time it was suicidal for anybody to stand up to the then ruling PDP.
"I believe it is time for all of us to act to save our party.
"It is time to rally round our generals who have fought valiantly and led us to victory. To abandon Saraki is to abandon a worthy comrade,''  Frank said.
Saraki is facing a 13-count charge of alleged false declaration of assets.
The CCT had on Thursday, March 24, 2016, rejected Saraki’s argument that the case against him is flawed, and ordered the trial to continue.

Why Obama went to a ballgame in Cuba after the Brussels attacks

(CNN) As the Brussels attacks jarred Europe and sent shockwaves through U.S. politics, President Barack Obama stuck to his agenda: a speech to the Cuban people and a baseball game. Critics such as Republican presidential candidate John Kasich railed at Obama for failing to return to the U.S. immediately. But the President argued that sticking to his schedule denied terrorists any victory in their goal of upending daily life. "The whole premise of terrorism is to try to disrupt people's ordinary lives," Obama said Tuesday in Havana when asked if he had second thoughts about attending the game between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Cuban national team. The clashing approaches offer a window into the president's worldview -- his desire to emphasize long-term interests over short-term emergencies and project calm at a time of high public concern. It's a dynamic that has sometimes caused him problems, leaving aides concerned that Obama's cool ...
