Woman unable to move after being caned in public

The young woman was brought to the public stage in Banda Aceh and forced down on to her knees by two guards.

A woman in the Banda Aceh province of Indonesia has collapsed after receiving severe bashing on her back for having sex outside her marriage.
She was forced down by on her knees by two guards, and caned repeatedly by a man who was wearing a mask.

The pain from the harsh whips were too much for her to bear. This can be seen by the way she clenched her fist in a bid to endure the pain.
The woman was pictured sobbing after she had received all the strokes her offense required her to receive. She was then taken away with a stretcher because she was rendered immobile.

The Sharia Law is the accepted legal system in the Banda Aceh province, and has been the the form of judicial authority, meting out extreme punishment to offenders.
Banda Aceh province is the only place in Indonesia where Sharia Law is still being practised.
